I want to say “Thank You” to each one of you who supports the work of Camp and Retreat Ministries. You continue to bless this ministry through your gifts, presence, service, and witness to the way that Camp and Retreat Ministries changes lives. You have been and continue to be an answer to prayers. Yes, our prayers for those of us who carry out this ministry, but more importantly, the prayers of children, youth, and adults who look forward to time at camp as a way to experience the wonder of God’s creation, the affirming love of Jesus, and the Spirit of intentional Christian community.
May you have a wonderful Thanksgiving in whatever way you celebrate the day.
See you on the adventure ahead,
Rev. Todd Bartlett
Executive Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries

Next Tuesday, November 30, is Giving Tuesday!
We are raising money to invest in the leadership development of young adults who participate in our Resident Counselor program. These young adults travel to three of our sites – Latgawa, Magruder, and Suttle Lake, providing guidance, support, training, and companionship for our children and youth campers. We recognize that there are many good candidates who don’t apply for this opportunity because of limited resources. So we are committed to raising our wages and seeking greater diversity within this leadership program.
One of the best ways to help with our Giving Tuesday campaign--if you're active on social media--is to create lots of buzz. Check out the Facebook pages for Suttle Lake, Magruder, Latgawa, and/or Camp and Retreat Ministries of Oregon-Idaho. Share the campaign links multiple times during the day. Tweet and retweet--the combined momentum of lots of different people spreading the word can really make a difference!
A few weeks ago we put out the challenge from Ray Johnson to match his gift of $25,000 for the new patio roof project at Wallowa Lake. We received word last week that Ray died. Peggy Lovegren offers this note:
We are sad to say that our camp advocate, strong supporter, and generous donor, Ray Johnson, passed away just a couple of weeks ago. He will be missed so much by so many! But I know his sweet soul will live on forever at Wallowa Lake Camp! His gracious spirit was such a big part of this camp and will continue to be. Thank you, Ray and family, for giving your heart to the ministry at this camp. We love you!
Ray's latest donation was $25,000 to be matched by other donors to build our almost completed patio roof project. Thousands of people will be blessed by being able to celebrate the outdoors under cover because of his contribution to make this beautiful roof happen! He also made sure our new showerhouse had the funding to be built, along with the Johnson yurt and numerous other camp projects. Wow....what an inspiration he was!

A recent Gratitude Poll asks this question: Which gratitude practice speaks to you?
1. Don’t be picky: appreciate everything
2. Find gratitude in your challenges
3. Practice mindfulness
4. Keep a gratitude journal
6. Express yourself
7. Spend time with loved ones
8. Improve your happiness in other areas of your life
It's amazing how many of these practices are already incorporated into camp & retreat ministries. Oddly, though, the list doesn't include one of the most significant gratitude practices: giving financial gifts that support the people and programs that have blessed your life. If you count camps and retreats as one of your blessings, we urge you to practice gratitude by clicking on that green button.
